Cal Fire crews rescued two people, one a lifeguard, who got caught in a rip current in the Pacific Ocean at Monastery Beach in unincorporated Monterey County on Sunday.
Fire officials said the call came in around 3:35 p.m. at the beach located just south of Carmel-By-The-Sea. The lifeguard got stuck in high surf while trying to rescue the swimmer in distress around 30 feet offshore, Cal Fire officials said.
A Cal Fire rescue swimmer was able to get both people out of the water by 3:48 p.m., according to fire officials.
