The San Francisco Superior Court Bench has elected Assistant Presiding Judge Garrett Wong to serve as incoming presiding judge of the court, effective Jan. 1, court officials announced Friday.

Judge Wong, a member of the San Francisco bench since 2005, will replace Presiding Judge Teri Jackson. Wong has a long background in civil and criminal assignments in courts of domestic violence, asbestos, behavioral health, mental health and more.

He has served in numerous leadership roles in the court, including supervising judge of the criminal division and as a member of the court’s executive committee.

He is also a member of the Judicial Council’s Workload Assessment Advisory Committee – a key statewide committee that advises the judicial council on branch performance measures and plans to improve court administration.

The San Francisco Superior Court Bench is comprised of 52 judges and one commissioner.
