The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has identified two people who were killed in a head-on collision on Valley Ford Road west of Petaluma on Monday as James Wheelock, 57, of Petaluma, and Carl Levine, 66, of Santa Rosa.
Wheelock and Levine were riding in a Nissan pickup truck west on Valley Ford Road near Walker Ranch Road in the Two Rock area of unincorporated Sonoma County around 11:20 a.m. when a 72-year-old Sacramento woman traveling east on Valley Ford Road turned left directly onto the path of the truck, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Wheelock and Levine were trapped in the Nissan truck and died of their injuries at the scene, according to the CHP.
The Sacramento woman suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital. The collision is under investigation and intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the collision, CHP officials said.
The collision closed Valley Ford Road until shortly after 3 p.m.
