Pedestrian killed crossing street in Santa Rosa

A 56-year-old Santa Rosa woman was struck and killed while trying to cross a street in Santa Rosa on Monday night, according to police.

Police said the woman, identified as Ouanah Sapien, 56, was struck by a white Ford Ranger pickup truck on Piner Road west of Marlow Road at 7:08 p.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 35-year-old Santa Rosa man, stayed at the scene of the collision and cooperated with police. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors in the collision but it was raining at the time.

According to police, Sapien was seen by witnesses trying to cross Piner Road from a Walgreens store to an apartment complex.

Piner Road was closed between Marlow and Waltzer roads for several hours as police investigated the collision.

Anyone with any information on the case is asked to call Santa Rosa police Officer Jeff Woods at (707) 543-3636.
