San Francisco-based ride-hailing service Uber has reached a $148 million settlement over allegations that it violated state data breach reporting and data security laws, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon announced Wednesday.
The two prosecutors held a news conference in San Francisco today to announce the nationwide settlement in connection with accusations regarding a 2016 data breach that exposed about 57 million users’ data and Uber’s paying of hackers to cover up the breach instead of report it to authorities.
