Tar spill closes lanes on I-880 in Hayward

A trailer carrying tar overturned on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Hayward late Wednesday morning, creating a sticky mess for motorists, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An alert for heavy traffic was issued after the incident at about 11:30 a.m. The tar spill is blocking two lanes on the freeway just north of Tennyson Road, according to the CHP.

Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. There is no estimated time for the lanes to be reopened, according to the CHP.
