Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies arrested a parolee on suspicion of DUI, evading police and vehicle theft after a pursuit in the Santa Rosa area Saturday afternoon.
A deputy tried to stop a 2002 Acura MDX for allegedly speeding and tailgating in the Stony Point and Todd roads area of unincorporated Sonoma County around 4 p.m.
The deputy pursued the Acura allegedly traveling up to 100 mph on southbound U.S. Highway 101 where two more deputies joined the chase and managed to box in and slow down the Acura on the Cotati grade, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver, identified as Michael Isaac, 36, of Santa Rosa, allegedly drove onto a dirt berm that nearly caused the Acura to tip over. The deputy made contact with the Acura with his patrol car causing the Acura to spin around and sideswipe the center median and stop, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies allegedly found an open container of rum on the driver’s side floorboard and smelled alcohol on Isaac’s breath.
Sheriff’s officials said Isaac’s mother contacted the deputies on Sunday to tell them her son took her car without permission Saturday morning around 11 a.m.
Sheriff’s officials said Isaac’s mother said she wanted to give her son a chance to return the Acura before she filed a stolen vehicle report. Isaac is being held without bail in the county jail.
