Pittsburg High students arrested for social media threats

Another student has been arrested for making a social media threat against Pittsburg High School, officials with the Pittsburg Unified School District said Thursday.

CORRECTION The original version of this story misspelled the city of Pittsburg in the headline. SFBay regrets the error.

District officials Tweeted around 10:30 a.m. that the school had received another social media threat and that they were working with the Pittsburg Police Department to investigate.

A few minutes later the officials posted an update.

District officials said:

“The PHS student was identified and arrested … It was determined he posted this as an attempt to disrupt school and not have to attend.”

Just Wednesday Pittsburg police announced that four minors had already been booked into juvenile hall for making similar threats.

Since they are minors, their names were not released. But three were identified as current Pittsburg High students and the fourth is a former student of Black Diamond High School.

Police urged area parents to discuss appropriate use of social media with their children.
