A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after refusing commands to pull over and then leading Petaluma police officers on a chase, police said.
At about 1:15 a.m., an officer saw 37-year-old Jason Remel, listed as a transient, go through a red light. Remel also was riding against traffic, and neither his bicycle nor his person contained the proper lighting for a ride in darkness, police said.
Remel failed to stop despite the officer’s activated flashing lights, and when other officers arrived, he wove around the police vehicles. Eventually he was cornered, pulled off his bike in the 900 block of Lakeville Street and was arrested on suspicion of evading police officers.
Police found methamphetamine in his belongings, and Remel also was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
