Crews make progress on Irving fire

The Irving Fire that is burning near Samuel P. Taylor State Park in Marin County is 25 percent contained Tuesday morning, a Marin County Fire Department spokeswoman said.

No structures have been damaged and the threat to them is decreasing, spokeswoman Laine Hendricks said.

Hendricks added:

“We hope to lift the evacuation orders as soon as possible.”

Firefighters now estimate the fire that was reported around 8 p.m. Monday has burned 115 acres. The new estimate is based on an overhead survey of the fire, Hendricks said.

Lagunitas Elementary School at 1 Lagunitas School Road in San Geronimo is closed because staff and students who were evacuated were not able to report to school, county fire officials said.

Evacuation orders were issued Monday night for residents on Mountain King Road, Portola Avenue and Alamo Way to Arroyo Road to Barranca Road.

About 150 personnel from Cal Fire, Santa Rosa, Sonoma Valley and Tomales are fighting the fire, Hendricks said.
