Smoky air forecast for Labor Day weekend

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued an air quality advisory for Friday through the Labor Day holiday Monday because of smoky skies expected in the region from wildfires elsewhere in Northern California.

Offshore winds are expected to send smoke from the wildfires into the Bay Area on Friday and over the weekend, according to the air district.

If residents smell smoke, they are advised to protect their health by staying inside with windows and doors closed, and to set air conditioning units and car vents to re-circulate, district officials said.

Elderly people, children, and people with respiratory issues are particularly vulnerable to elevated air pollution levels and should take extra precaution, according to the air district.
