Wildfire near Castro Valley burns 48 acres

A vegetation fire that burned Sunday near Palo Verde Road near Castro Valley in unincorporated Alameda County is now 100 percent contained, the Alameda County Fire Department said.

The fire, first reported at 12:20 p.m. today in the 6500 block of Palo Verde Road, burned 48 acres. There were no injuries, and no buildings were damaged. The fire could be seen from Interstate Highway 580.

Cal Fire crews remained on the scene Sunday evening, having taken over from Alameda County Fire as the lead agency. Eight other local agencies, including three local fire departments, also fought the fire today.

The cause of the Palo Verde Fire remained under investigation late Sunday.
