An Oakland police officer who was critically injured in a crash Monday morning had been responding to a call of a suspicious person near the Port of Oakland, police said.
The officer was headed east in a marked patrol SUV on Middle Harbor Road near the west gate of the Oakland International Container Terminal, where the SUV hit a car and then a parked big-rig at 2:49 a.m.
The officer had to be extricated by the Oakland Fire Department and was taken to a hospital. Police said earlier that the officer was undergoing surgery, but no update on the officer’s condition has been released.
No other drivers were injured in the crash.
