A 35-year-old man was injured Friday night when the electric unicycle he was riding was struck by a car at the intersection of Valencia and Cesar Chavez streets, according to an advocate for riders of personal electric vehicles.
Anthony Vano was rolling south through the intersection in the crosswalk when the driver that was headed north on Valencia, believed to be in a silver SUV, turned left onto Cesar Chavez and struck Vano, said Jesse Garnier, executive director of the San Francisco-based Personal Electric Vehicle Riders Association.
The driver, Garnier said, stopped momentarily before driving away west on Cesar Chavez Street.
Vano was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of a broken leg.
In a press release late Sunday night, Garnier described Vano, whom he knows personally, as a:
“… responsible, experienced, safe rider who was wearing lights, a helmet and safety gear.”
