Bay Bridge reopens after fatal shooting

All eastbound lanes on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge have reopened Monday morning after a shooting and subsequent crash left one person dead and two others injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The shooting was reported at 2:23 a.m. on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 west of Yerba Buena Island.

According to CHP Officer Bert Diaz, three men were in an SUV in the far-right lane when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone shot at the SUV, causing it to collide with a sedan in the middle lane.

The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the SUV were injured, including one with a gunshot wound, Diaz said.

The investigation into the shooting and crash closed all eastbound lanes on the Bay Bridge for about four hours. Three of the lanes reopened around 6:30 a.m., and the remaining lanes reopened as of 7:45 a.m.
