Pedestrian struck, killed in downtown Sunnyvale

Sunnyvale police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old man who was hit by a car on Saturday night.

The man was struck near the intersection of South Pastoria and West Iowa avenues a few blocks west of the downtown area, police said in a statement.

Police arrived at the scene at about 10:49 p.m. to find the man in the street. Paramedics could not revive him, and he was declared dead at the scene. His name hasn’t been released.

The driver of the car that hit him remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision is urged to call Officer Juan Gallazzo at (408) 730-7110.
