Five killed in plane crash out of Concord

A Cessna 414 aircraft that crashed Sunday in Southern California after taking off from Concord’s Buchanan Field Airport was registered to San Francisco’s Category III Aviation Corp., according to Federal Aviation Administration records. Five people aboard the plane died in the crash in a Santa Ana shopping mall parking lot.

The plane crashed at 12:28 p.m. near John Wayne Airport, according to the FAA and the Orange County Fire Authority. The twin-engine plane was manufactured in 1973, according to FAA records.

There were no reported injuries on the ground, said Capt. Steve Concialdi of Orange County Fire.

The aircraft declared an emergency before crashing, the FAA said. The FAA is investigating, and the National Safety Transportation Board will determine the cause of the accident.
