A 16-year-old boy was arrested following a shooting that injured a woman in Santa Cruz on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Officers responded at about 1:30 p.m. to the report of a shooting at the intersection of River and Fern streets.
Investigators determined there was an argument between people in two vehicles and a shot was fired from one vehicle into the other, striking a woman in the passenger seat, according to police.
The woman in the passenger seat and the man driving the car went to a hospital and the woman was treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said.
The suspect vehicle was described as a blue Toyota Prius and a police sergeant found it and pulled it over. A witness eventually identified the people inside as being involved in the shooting, police said.
The 16-year-old boy was arrested and booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm at a moving vehicle and being a minor in possession of a firearm, according to police. His name is not being released because he is a minor.
Jourdon Ware, a passenger in the suspect vehicle, was arrested for an outstanding warrant unrelated to the shooting, police said.
