Law enforcement officials have closed state Highway 24 Tuesday morning after a California Highway Patrol vehicle caught fire and ammunition inside started to explode, according to Lafayette police.
The vehicle is in the vicinity of Highway 24 and St. Stephens Drive, according to a statement published around 10:30 a.m.
Police say the highway will remain closed until it’s safe to drive past the burning patrol vehicle.
