Stranded fishermen rescued near Muir Beach

Five fishermen who were stranded due to a rising high tide just south of Muir Beach in unincorporated Marin County on Saturday night were guided back to their vehicles by Marin County Fire crews early Sunday morning, fire officials said.

The group of four men and one woman were reported stranded sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday, Battalion Chief Chris Martinelli said.

According to Martinelli, fire crews were able to guide the group of five with the help of flashlights around the water that had filled the space they used to reach the beach and back to their vehicles in a parking lot.

Martinelli said:

“We walked with them out through the rocks and along the beach back through to the parking area.”

The location of where the group was stranded was between Muir Beach and Pirate’s Cove, Martinelli said. Watercraft was available in case of a medical emergency but nobody was injured, according to Martinelli.
