A 69-year-old man who died after a vehicle struck him as he crossed a San Francisco street Tuesday morning has been identified as Dmitry Scotkin, according to the city’s medical examiner.
The vehicle struck Scotkin, a San Francisco resident, shortly after 10 a.m. as he crossed the street near Sloat Boulevard and 36th Avenue in the southwest part of the city, according to police.
Scotkin was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said.
The driver, a 59-year-old man, remained at the scene. Police did not say whether they arrested the driver.
The collision remains under investigation, according to police.
San Francisco Supervisor Katy Tang wrote on Facebook on Tuesday to express sadness about the death.
Tang said the collision happened in an area where a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) beacon had recently been installed by Caltrans, although she said it was unclear whether the beacon was activated when the car struck Scotkin.
