Crews have fully contained the Grant Fire, which started Sunday and burned 640 acres near the Altamont Pass and Interstate Highway 580 in unincorporated eastern Alameda County, Cal Fire officials said today.
The blaze was first reported shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday west of Grant Line Road and prompted the closure of Highway 580 in both directions.
The westbound lanes reopened at 9:10 p.m. and the eastbound lanes reopened shortly after midnight.
Alameda County firefighters also responded to the blaze, but all of them were released from the scene by 12:25 a.m., county fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
