Marin County Fair sets attendance records

Nearly 105,000 people attended the recent five-day Marin County Fair in San Rafael and generated about $1.5 million in ticket revenue, the Marin County Department of Cultural Affairs said Thursday.

Paid attendance was 86,936, and 8,091 people received complimentary tickets to the “All for One & Fun for All” fair June 30-July 4.

The biggest day was July 4, when 30,592 people celebrated Independence Day at the fair, officials said. Wednesday’s attendance broke a record set in 1984.

Live music included the Beach Boys, Los Lobos, LeAnn Rimes, Eddie Money and Michael Franti & Spearhead.

There were 40 animals in the petting zoo and 12 pigs ran a total of 60 laps in the Great American Pig Races.

More than 100 art works, most of them by Marin County artists, sold for a total of $37,000, and more than 15,000 items were entered in competitive exhibits.
