A man died after his vehicle was rear-ended by another car on westbound state Highway 24 in Oakland Wednesday morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The crash was reported at 5:20 a.m. on westbound Highway 24 at Broadway, just west of the state Highway 13 interchange.
A white Honda Civic rear-ended a gray Chevrolet Tahoe, sending the Tahoe up an embankment, CHP Officer Herman Baza said.
The Tahoe then overturned and the driver was ejected. A silver Toyota Camry then subsequently ran over the Tahoe’s driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Baza said.
The crash prompted the closure of multiple westbound lanes of the highway for more than two hours. All lanes had reopened as of 7:30 a.m., according to the CHP.
