The Golden State Warriors have drafted guard Jacob Evans out of the University of Cincinnati with the 28th overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft.
Clocking in at 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, Evans spent three years at Cincinnati where he averaged 11.7 points, 2.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game over that span.
In his junior year, Evans led Cincinnati in scoring (13.0 ppg) and assists (3.1 apg). Helping his team tie the school record for most wins in a season (31), Evans led Cincinnati to their 32nd NCAA Tournament appearance.
Along with his size, Evans was scouted as an athletic guard/forward with strength shooting the ball from distance as well. During his sophomore year as the Baton Rouge, LA native stroked three-balls at a 41.8-percent-clip. Although his efficiency dropped in 2018, his career three-point shooting percentage finalized at 37.7 percent.
Evans will have a good chance of seeing floor time next season as Warriors general manager Bob Meyers stated he wanted a player who could be a plug-in-and-play type of pick.
Evans was also reported to have adequate tools to become a “superb defender” according the Warriors scouting reports. If that is the case, the chances of seeing Evans in blue and gold come October may be high as the Warriors are moving towards a more youthful look from a roster’s perspective.
