Warriors fans urged to take BART to parade

Another NBA championship. Another parade in Oakland.

The Golden State Warriors won their third NBA championship on Friday night in Cleveland, which means fans will once again be able to celebrate in Oakland next Tuesday  with a parade at 11 a.m.

BART wants parade goers to take the transit system and to buy a Clipper card a day or two before the parade so fans are not stuck in line waiting to buy tickets or cards from vending machines at BART stations.

Every BART station has at least one Clipper card vending machine.

The transit agency will setup tables on the morning of the parade to sell Clipper cards at the Pittsburg/Bay Point, Dublin and Fremont stations for $14, which include $11 for rides and a one-time $3 activation fee. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.

Officials said those three stations had the longest lines at the Clipper card vending machine last year.

BART wants to discourage fans from driving to its parking lots, because they will most likely be full.

Instead, officials encourage fans to have someone drop them off at a station or take the bus if possible.

On the day of the parade, BART plans to run every available train. Last year, BART carried more than half a million riders during last year’s parade making it the fifth highest ridership day for the transit system.

BART wants passengers to debark at the 19th Street or 12th Street BART stations, which is along the parade route.

AC Transit buses will reroute buses on the day before the parade and during the parade. Lines 1, 6, 12, 14, 18, 19, 20, 29, 33, 40, 51A, 62, 72, 72M, 72R, 88, 96, NL, 300, 314, Broadway Shuttle and All-Nighter lines 800, 801 and 840 will be detoured.

The parade will begin at Broadway and 11th Street, turning right on 20th Street, turning right on Harrison to 19th Street, turning right on Lakeside Drive and end at Oak and 13th Street.

There will be no post-event rally as in previous years, according to Oakland city officials.
