Breed snatches 498-vote lead over Leno

Board of Supervisors President London Breed has taken the lead over former state Sen. Mark Leno in the race to become San Francisco’s next mayor.

Breed took a 498-vote lead over Leno Saturday as the suspense continues on who will occupy the Room 200 inside City Hall.

The San Francisco Department of Elections posted the latest results at 4 p.m. Saturday. Another 23,000 votes remain to be tallied since Friday’s update from the department.

Approximately 2,700 ballots were delivered by the post office to the department, and approximately 20,300 ballots that voters dropped off at polling places were included in Saturday’s report.

The department said it still has about 42,000 ballots and estimated 14,000 provisional ballots that still need to be processed.

Leno has had a lead over Breed since Wednesday but the lead his lead has continued to shrink with each update from the department so far.

The department will announce its next update on Sunday at 4 p.m.
