Santa Rosa woman survives bison attack

A Santa Rosa woman was gored by a bison Wednesday at Yellowstone National Park.

Park officials said Kim Hancock, 59, was gored by a bull bison at Fountain Paint Pot in the Lower Geyser Basin after a crowd of people approached the bison.

The crowd came within about 10 yards of the bison while walking along the boardwalk.

The bison became agitated and charged the crowd. It left the area immediately following the incident.

Hancock was treated for a hip injury and was transported to a medical center in Big Sky, Montana.

Park officials said she was in good condition.

This is the second reported incident of a bison injuring a park visitor in 2018. There was one incident in 2017 and five in 2015, park officials said.

Four people have been injured by wildlife at Yellowstone in the past month.
