Police Sgt. Steve Pehlke said the Police Department dispatched officers after receiving a report at 11:38 a.m. of two males with what appeared to be a gun at Biella Elementary School.
The tipster said the two males appeared to be in their 20s and were sitting near some lunch tables in the quad area of the school.
The school had completed the academic year and was not in session, but was open as a polling station for voters, Pehlke said.
When the officers arrived, the males had moved near the playground of the school. Pehlke said the responding officers saw them sitting near the playground and passing the weapon back and forth.
The officers arrested them and determined that the weapon was a pellet gun and that the youths were 15.
Pehlke said they were booked at Juvenile Hall on allegations of having a weapon on school grounds and being a minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage.
A state law that bans firearms on school grounds includes pellet guns in the definition of firearms, Pehlke said.
