Sleeping man killed by truck in East Palo Alto

A sleeping homeless man was run over by a truck early Thursday morning in East Palo Alto, police said.

Officers went to the 2400 block of Pulgas Avenue at 6:55 a.m. to check on a man who was lying in the road.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that a 47-year-old man was wrapped in plastic and towels and sleeping on an abandoned mattress on Pulgas Avenue when a truck ran over him.

The truck hit the man at 6:35 a.m. and he died where he was hit.

Police said they have located the truck involved in the man’s death and they are investigating the death as a traffic accident. The man’s name was not yet available from the coroner’s office.
