‘Ride of silence’ honors killed bicyclists

A large group of advocates for safer streets plan to ride bicycles on San Francisco’s most dangerous streets in a silent memorial Wednesday evening to honor bicyclists killed or injured in The City.

Bicyclists riding in the 15th annual Ride of Silence are scheduled to gather at 5:30 p.m. at Sports Basement at 1590 Bryant St. for a slideshow memorializing lives lost.

The procession will be “rolling out” at 6:30 p.m. on a route that goes through the South of Market, Tenderloin and Mission neighborhoods. There’s an afterparty at Bender’s Bar & Grill at 806 S. Van Ness Ave.

Organizers said many of the riders participating have lost loved ones in fatal bicycle collisions. Members of the public are encouraged to bring flowers, photos or mementos to remember them by.
