Multiple lanes of southbound Interstate Highway 280 near the state Highway 87 interchange in San Jose remain blocked Wednesday morning because of flooding in the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The flooding was initially reported shortly before 4:15 a.m. near the connector ramp to northbound Highway 87.
The scene this morning as flooding covered the ramp I280 SB to SR87. The water continued onto I280 SB, forcing all SB lanes to be closed except the #1 lane (fast lane). The water is being pumped out but the closure will be in effect for the next few hours. Use alt routes pic.twitter.com/IleyM0dC8Q

CHP spokesman Officer Ross Lee said he did not know where the water came from, but said it accumulated in the roadway because a fuse blew at a nearby pump house that is used to pump out any water from the highway.
Caltrans eventually got contractor crews out to replace the fuse and the water is now being pumped from the roadway, but the incident is still blocking all but the far left southbound lane of Highway 280, Lee said:
“With just one lane open, traffic is going to be impacted quite a bit.”
Lee said the lanes are expected to remain closed until late Wednesday morning.
