Six people were taken to a hospital Wednesday afternoon after having symptoms of burning in their noses and mouths in a classroom at Oak Grove High School in San Jose, a fire spokesman said.
Fire officials were notified shortly after 3 p.m. that some people at the school were experiencing respiratory distress, fire spokesman Capt. Mitch Matlow said.
A hazardous materials crew in protective gear is now in a classroom at the school trying to determine what the agent was that caused the distress.
Matlow said 12 people experienced symptoms. All were decontaminated and treated at the school and six were taken to a hospital.
Fire officials are asking others who were in the classroom but who have gone home to shower and wash their clothes and if they feel sick to call 911.
