Train tank cars derail at Shell oil facility

Two tank cars derailed early Tuesday morning in the Shell Oil Yard in Martinez, but stayed upright and did not spill any hazardous materials, a Union Pacific Railroad spokesman said.

The cars derailed around 2:45 a.m. along the Tracy Subdivision in the Shell Oil Yard, Union Pacific spokesman Justin Jacobs said.

No injuries were reported in the derailment, which remains under investigation.

Jacobs said crews were at the scene working to re-rail the cars as of shortly after 7:45 a.m.
