A man who struck several people in a traffic collision at Oakland International Airport’s traffic curb on Tuesday evening was identified by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday as 55-year-old Juan Pablo of Oakland.
Pablo was arrested on suspicion of felony reckless driving causing injury and driving without a license, sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Kelly said.
The collision, which occurred at Terminal 1 at the airport at about 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, injured three pedestrians, Kelly said. He said it was not an act of terrorism and passengers at the airport are safe.
Kelly said it appears the collision occurred when Pablo, who he said didn’t have a driver’s license, got his foot stuck on the accelerator of a Mercedes-Benz SUV.
A fourth pedestrian was injured when some luggage went airborne and struck them. All of the pedestrians were adults.
Kelly said Pablo did not report any injuries.
Two of the four pedestrians were taken to hospitals with slight to moderate injuries.
Pablo, whose occupation is listed in jail records as construction, is being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin in lieu of $10,000 bail and tentatively is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
