The Posey Tube, which connects Alameda to Oakland in the eastbound direction underneath the Oakland Inner Harbor, is now open to traffic as repairs to a sinkhole were completed ahead of schedule, Alameda Public Works announced Monday night.
The tube was closed to traffic after 10 a.m. Monday to repair the sinkhole, which developed on the Oakland end of the tunnel this weekend.
Work was completed on the sinkhole at 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to Oakland police. Initial estimates planned the repair work to last through the week and possibly longer, but police said accelerated repairs allowed the tube to reopen sooner.
