Sinkhole repair work impacts Hayes Street

One lane of traffic will be open on Hayes Street in San Francisco this week while the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission fixes a sinkhole.

The sinkhole formed on the street and there may be potential for future sinkholes and sewer failure, according to the department.

The first part of the project will begin on Hayes Street between Franklin Street and Gough Street at 7 a.m. on Monday. One traffic lane will remain open.

The department will be completing several projects between Octavia Street and Larkin Street over the course of the week.

Hayes Street between Octavia Street and Van Ness Avenue will undergo emergency replacement of an emergency sewer main and lateral, and pavement renovation.

Hayes Street between Van Ness Avenue and Larkin Street will undergo pavement work for San Francisco Public Works’ “Haight Street and Hayes Street Project.”

Traffic crews will work one block at a time, according to the department. There will be electronic signs, cones and flaggers in place to maintain traffic.

Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning on Monday and ending on Friday.

Drivers should expect slower traffic and allow extra time for travel, the department said.
