Fisherman rescued by U.S. Coast Guard

 

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a fisherman who was washed out to sea at a beach in Sonoma County Saturday morning.

The 35-year-old man was hit by a wave while fishing in the surf in Salt Point State Park at about 8:20 a.m., according to the Coast Guard.

Someone at the beach reported the incident to the Coast Guard, saying the man was about 500 feet offshore and having trouble swimming.

The Coast Guard sent a helicopter crew and 47-foot lifeboat to find the man.

The California Highway Patrol, Sonoma County life guards, Timber Cove Fire Department and Salt Creek State Park Rangers also responded to locate the man.

The helicopter was able to retrieve the man and transfer him to emergency medical personnel who were waiting on shore, the Coast Guard said.

The agency did not release any information about the man’s condition.
