Raiders continue active free agent period, ink three more

The Raiders continue to make moves on the third day of the new league year signing a trio of free agents.

The team made two of the moves official Friday, announcing deals with cornerback Rashaan Melvin and long snapper Andrew DePaola, replacing Jon Condo. The third is not yet official but announced via social media by the signee, cornerback Shareece Wright who posted an image of the Raiders shield on Instagram, accompanied by the a brief statement:

“I’m going going back back to cali cali! Nothing like that silver and black! God is good!”

This signing will reunite Wright with fellow defensive back Marcus Gilchrist, who was a part of the same 2011 draft class and by the same team — the San Diego Chargers. The Raiders continue to look to beef up a secondary that struggled at times to contain opposing teams’ passing attacks last season.

Melvin was a member of the Colts last season, and started in the team’s first 10 games prior to injuring his hand. He had 36 tackles and 3 interceptions in these 10 games.

DePaola’s contract, a four-year, $4.27 million deal, makes him the league’s highest paid long snapper. He spent last years with the Chicago Bears after playing his first three seasons with the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He appeared in all 16 games for the Bears last year.
