Marin Co. deputy dead after vehicle crash

A Marin County sheriff’s deputy died early Thursday morning after a vehicle crash on state Highway 1 in rural west Marin County, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was responding to a 911 call shortly after midnight when he lost control of his vehicle on a left turn in the road just north of Point Reyes Station Road, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.

The vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a tree, and the deputy was taken by medical helicopter to Petaluma Valley Hospital where he died shortly after arrival, Barclay said.

All lanes of Highway 1 were closed until around 6:30 a.m.
