Vallejo police this month started carrying Narcan, which can reverse deadly opioid overdoses in emergency situations, police said Tuesday.
After training earlier this month, each patrol officer is carrying Narcan and is trained to give single dose units of Narcan Nasal Spray.
Police said they are just one of a few agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area where each officer carries Narcan.
Vallejo Police Chief Andrew Bidou said in a statement:
“There is no doubt that this program will save citizens’ lives and protect police officers from incidental exposure.”
California Senate Bill 1438 authorized police officers to deliver Narcan under Assembly Bill 635, known as the Good Samaritan Act.
