A student was arrested Monday morning at a middle school in the unincorporated Monterey County community of Castroville on suspicion of stabbing another student, sheriff’s officials said.

A message about the stabbing was posted on Facebook by the sheriff’s office at 9:05 a.m. and officials said the stabbing occurred at North Monterey County Middle School at 10301 Seymour St.

The school was locked down as a result of the incident. Deputies responded and were able to arrest the suspect, who is a student.

As of 10:48 a.m., the lockdown had been lifted, sheriff’s officials said.
