A Vallejo police officer shot and killed a suspect during a violent altercation Tuesday evening, according to police.
At 7:40 p.m., a patrol officer stopped a suspect in the area of Marin and Florida streets. The suspect fled on foot and the officer pursued him, police said.
The pursuit was followed by a violent physical struggle between the officer and the suspect.
According to police, during the struggle the officer discharged his firearm in self-defense, striking the suspect.
Medical personnel responded to the scene and the suspect was pronounced dead, police said.
Further details were not immediately available. The case is currently under investigation by the Solano County District Attorney’s Office and the Vallejo Police Department.
The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave pending further investigation, police said.
