School for deaf counselor suspected of child molestation

A counselor at the California School for the Deaf in Fremont has been arrested on suspicion of child molestation and making criminal threats, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.

Ricardo Tafolia Rose, 56, a Fremont resident who has worked for the state since 1989, was arrested on Friday, according to the CHP.

Investigators have identified one victim in the case so far, the CHP said.

The agency said its Hayward area unit recently asked the special investigations unit of its Golden Gate Division to assist it in investigating sexual misconduct allegations against Rose, who’s being held at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin without bail.

Rose is now on paid administrative leave pending further investigation, the CHP said.

Rose tentatively is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Dublin Tuesday, according to county jail records.

The CHP said anyone who believes they were a victim of sexual misconduct by Rose or knows of someone who was victimized should call the Golden Gate Division’s special investigations unit at 1-800-TELL-CHP (1-800-835-5247).
