Murder-suicide victim had protective order

Police have released more details about a murder-suicide that occurred Monday night in a San Jose parking lot, including the identity of the shooter.

Around 10:50 p.m., officers first responded to a report of a shooting in a parking lot near the corner of East Alma and South First streets, according to police.

There, officers found a male and female suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

After an investigation, officers learned that the female victim had a protective order against the man who died. He’s been identified as 42-year-old San Jose resident Timoteo Morales, police said.

Morales allegedly confronted the victim in the parking lot, before pulling out a gun. Morales shot a security guard at the scene, but missed.

He then shot the victim, killing her, before fatally shooting himself, according to police.

The identity of the female victim has not been released. The incident marks the city’s fourth homicide of 2018.

Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Bert Milliken or Detective Raul Corral with the police department’s homicide unit at (408) 277-5283. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call the Crime Stopper tip line at (408) 947-7867.
