A man died Monday morning when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing a street in Vallejo, police said.
Michael James Thurin, 63, of Vallejo, was trying to cross Springs Road between two marked crosswalks in the middle of the block east of Oakwood Avenue around 6:40 a.m. when he was struck by a 2003 Mercedes-Benz ML320 that was traveling west on Springs Road, Vallejo police Lt. Michael Nichelini said.
Thurin’s dog also died in the collision, and alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, Nichelini said.
The 38-year-old Vallejo man who was driving the Mercedes was not injured and he stopped at the scene.
It was the fourth fatal collision in Vallejo this year, Nichelini said.
The collision is under investigation. Anyone with information about it is asked to call Officer Jim Melville at (707) 648-4014.
