Hiker rescued after Mt. Tamalpais fall

A female hiker was hoisted to safety Saturday afternoon by a helicopter crew with the California Highway Patrol after she suffered major injuries on a trail on Mount Tamalpais.

At about 3 p.m., a CHP helicopter crew responded to a call from someone who said a 22-year-old woman was injured on Steep Ravine Trail on Mount Tamalpais.

CHP officials said the woman had slipped on a wet trail and fell about 40 feet. Because of her location, a helicopter was needed to rescue her.

Marin County firefighters prepared the women to be hoisted about 165 feet to the helicopter. Once she was hoisted, the crew took her to a landing area where they prepared her to be taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
