Deputy’s wife gets 7 years for DUI crash that killed toddler

The wife of an Alameda County sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Friday in Contra Costa County Superior Court to seven years in prison after she was convicted of vehicular manslaughter following a 2016 collision that killed a 3-year-old boy, prosecutors said Monday.

Yarenit Malihan had pleaded guilty in the case to vehicular manslaughter with multiple victim enhancements.

At about 6:20 p.m. Sept. 9, 2016, Malihan crashed a Toyota Sequoia into a Toyota Camry that was parked on Interstate Highway 680 near Bolinger Canyon Road in San Ramon. Three-year-old Elijah Dunn died of injuries he suffered in the crash.

Pleasanton police said Malihan had previously been arrested for DUI in June 2016.
