Boaters rescued from piling after fishing vessel sinks

Two boaters were rescued after being stranded in the water near Richmond on Tuesday evening, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The boaters contacted the Coast Guard at about 7:30 p.m. to report that they became stranded on a piling after their fishing boat sank.

A crew on a 45-foot response boat left from Coast Guard Station San Francisco and found the boaters, who were taken on board and transferred to Brickyard Cove Marina with no injuries reported, Coast Guard officials said.

Lt. Cmdr. Jason Berger said in a statement:

“The boaters in this case were fishing from a piling when their boat sank. … They wisely decided to call the Coast Guard instead of attempting to swim to shore in the cold water of the Bay.”
