Man dies after BART police shooting

A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Wednesday afternoon near the West Oakland BART station, police said.

At 4:41 p.m., BART police asked Oakland police for help after a uniformed BART police officer fired his gun in the area of Seventh and Chester streets, just north of the subway station.

Two men suffered gunshot wounds and both were taken to a hospital. Police said one of those men is now dead.

Oakland police are assisting BART police in a criminal investigation.

Police recovered a gun at the scene. Police said no officers were injured and there are no outstanding suspects.

The shooting did not affect BART service but Seventh Street from Mandela Parkway to Henry Street and associated side streets are closed, according to police.
